Met up with my girfs at NYDC for a short catch up, and also, it was K’s birthday!

A slice of birthday cake “Boo Boo”.

This was a rich chocolate cake without the cake like texture (read: sponge cake type?) so I had to say I enjoyed it. I love creamy smooth rich cakes, almost like eating ice-cream!

Knowing K’s love for mushrooms, I ordered stuffed mushroom topped with cheese. Average.

Creamy pasta, I had forgotten how it tasted like. Must not have been very good.

We couldn’t think of anywhere else to go, so boyf suggested to his friends to dine at Ikea. Great move! Because I love Ikea meatballs 😀

There’s an ongoing Christmas special (till 2 Jan 2011) for certain dishes. We tried Christmas Hot Plate ($8.00), served with potatoes, baby carrots, Swedish mustard, and a walnut roll on the side. Meats include honey glazed pork ham and roast turkey breast and meatballs. Do note that the meats are different if you dine at Alexandra.

I love the meatballs and ham! Sadly, it doesn’t come with the sauce that meatballs usually come with. So I’d say this dish is so-so. Plus, I don’t really like turkey cos they’re so tough!

Pasta With Meatballs ($6.50 iirc). Again, if not for the meatballs, I wouldn’t think this dish is nice at all. Any other restaurants would serve better pasta.

Halal Chicken Wings ($2.80 for 2). This is yums. We only bought the halal one because there was no queue. Haha. No difference from non-halal ones (taste wise).

Herring Plate ($2.90). There was a very strong fishy smell when we opened the cling wrap, I almost wanted to puke! But everybody around the table said it was worth a try, so I did. And it was pretty good. I can’t tell the difference between the 3 types, all tasted like pickles to me. Hur hur.

Log Cake (can’t remember price, but less than $5.00). It was good. Not too sweet and very chocolate-y.

Sisters decided to have steamboat at Sukiya for Christmas gathering this year. Recommended by sis N ‘cos she loves the beef here.

You can choose between Beef, Pork, or Chicken. Since we had 4 pax, we ordered a set of each first. Sliced meat for shabu shabu. Awesome! And I must comment that the beef here is good! (:

As usual, there’s always half a pot of spicy soup, another half non-spicy. After all the meat and veggie, each person was also allowed one serving of soft serve ice-cream. I don’t particularly like it cos the ice-cream melts really quickly and tastes like diluted Milo. Yucks.

Paid about $25.50 per pax.

Meiji

Here to do a review of some Meiji snacks. Saw them lying on a supermarket shelf and I couldn’t resist the temptation. Japanese products are always packaged so nicely!

Kinoko choco (mushroom chocolate)
S$3.80 (82 grams)

Tastes like mini ‘yan yan’ already dipped in chocolate! Nice!

Taste: 8 / 10

Fran Creamy Mousse Strawberry Chocolate
S$3.60 (49 grams)

Chocolate biscuit stick coated with a thick layer of strawberry. Beneath the layer of pink is a thin layer of white, I can’t tell what it is though. Maybe milk? The strawberry is more sour than sweet so it tastes like yoghurt.

Taste: 7 / 10

Chou Cookie Strawberry Chocolate
S$4.00 (53 grams)

Gotta apologise for this low resolution photo taken with my Blackberry. And I couldn’t find a photo of this snack on Google images so I had no choice but to use this.

Super crispy exterior which I totally didn’t expect. From the packaging, I thought it was gonna be softer (a la cream puffs) but it was as hard as love letters (those kind you eat during Chinese New Year). In fact, the outer shell tastes just like love letters with a slight tinge of chocolate flavour. Cream filling was ok. The usual cream strawberry. Didn’t really like the whole thing. Would have preferred Hello Panda for something similar.

Taste: 5 / 10

Tried this brand of milk tea previously and it was so good! Fooled by the atas name, I decided to buy chocolate flavoured this time round.

Just one word – eeew.

Seriously, this bottle of liquid taste like diluted and sweetened version of chocolate milk. I couldn’t even taste the tea at all! What a major mistake. I’m never gonna buy this again. Can’t wait to try their other 2 flavours though! Both are pure tea, non-flavoured. Should be awesome!

Price: $1.50 (promotional price)

There’s an ongoing student’s promotion at Swensen’s now! Choose any 2 ice-creams (from a list) at only $9.80++.

We had sundaes. Double berry & nutty mighty. I must say both are nice although not quite what you consider excellent ice cream. Excellent ice cream would be Udders, Island Creamery, and the likes? So anyway, I like the ice cream in double berry, but the toppings & nuts in nutty mighty.

Total bill $9.80 + 10% + 7% = $11.50

Service 4/10 (had to wave a few times to get waitress’ attention)

Sorry! I first have to apologize that I didn’t record the prices for the individual dishes. Neither did I take down the final bill. But iirc, each dish is priced at about $15-$20. Slightly on the high side, but I am more than willing to pay because Fika’s ingredients are excellent!

Plus, their portions are large too. So definitely worth the money (:

Grilled Chicken & Cheese & Tomatoes Crepe

Smoked Salmon Sandwich
(smoked salmon, alfafa, sliced onions & dill mustard)

Grilled Chicken
(boneless chicken thigh served with parsley potatoes & black pepper sauce)

Swedish Meatballs
(meatballs served with home-made cream sauce, parsley potatoes & lingonberry jam)

Creamy Mushroom Pasta – special order without leek
(pasta with sliced mushrooms in creamy white sauce, additional chicken)

I have nothing but praises for this wonderful dinner at Fika. The dishes came piping hot and were uber delicious. Damn good!

highly recommended for their ice-cream, so we went to give it a try!

Classic Single, Price $3.20
Classic Premium Double, Price $5.40

i’m not sure if i got the names (of the flavours) correct. can’t recall what each of us order. but my favourite has to be snickers mars!! it tastes like pistachio so maybe it was. can’t wait to try their alcoholic flavours!! 😀
