Met sis M for a quick dinner at Nex! I’ve never been there O: She suggested Lenas, which she said served pretty decent food at ok prices. I’m fine with any place as long as it’s somewhere I’ve never dined before!

Do you know that Lenas is part of MOF (the Japanese restaurant)?

Anyway, great restaurant because the menu is so fascinating. All the pastas & pizzas came in like 4-5 variations. E.g. Mixed Seafood Pasta came in 4 types of sauces & 2 types of pastas. So fun!

We had a tough time deciding what to eat. Hehe.

Mixed Seafood Pasta
Price: S$15.90

The pasta was al dente! Perfect texture and coated with yummy tomato sauce. Not too rich, yet not too watery. I like how it was sour to the right degree (: Thumbs up!

Smoked Salmon Pizza (Regular)
Price: S$16.50

Simple thin crusted pizza with slices of smoked salmon all over. Yummeh 😀

Treated my ex-colleague to dinner just after I got my first pay cheque. Heh. She’s a fan of Japanese food so we opted for Sushi Tei.

There weren’t a lot of people at 7.30PM on a weekday, probably because of the recent Japan disaster that led many to avoid eating Japanese food. I believe there must have been stringent checks in place so I guess it was safe. Just for two ladies, I must say we ordered quite a spread. I’ve classified them broadly into the “must order”, “average”, and “blah”. So you know what to do (;

Towels at 20cents each.

Apricot Juice for her and hot green tea (free) for me.
Price: $3.60++

Hotate Teriyaki – Must Order!
Price: $6.00++
Drenched in awesome teriyaki sauce, the scallops came piping hot!

Salmon Mentaiyaki – Must Order!
Price: $12.00++

Agedashi Tofu – Average!
Price: $5.00++

Umaki – Average!
Price: $6.50++
Everything tastes damn good when served piping hot, same goes for this. But I think the omelette (tamago) was a little too thick and taste was bland, sort of covering the goodness of the eel (unagi).

Salmon Sashimi – Average!
Price: $8.00++
Sashimi was pretty fresh but I’m not a fan so I can’t comment much. R says it was a tad too thick though.

Fried Oyster Sushi – Average!
Price: $4.80++

Green plate
Price: $4.10++

Pink plate
Price: $3.50++

Total bill: $53.90 + 10% + 7% = $63.44

Sorry! I first have to apologize that I didn’t record the prices for the individual dishes. Neither did I take down the final bill. But iirc, each dish is priced at about $15-$20. Slightly on the high side, but I am more than willing to pay because Fika’s ingredients are excellent!

Plus, their portions are large too. So definitely worth the money (:

Grilled Chicken & Cheese & Tomatoes Crepe

Smoked Salmon Sandwich
(smoked salmon, alfafa, sliced onions & dill mustard)

Grilled Chicken
(boneless chicken thigh served with parsley potatoes & black pepper sauce)

Swedish Meatballs
(meatballs served with home-made cream sauce, parsley potatoes & lingonberry jam)

Creamy Mushroom Pasta – special order without leek
(pasta with sliced mushrooms in creamy white sauce, additional chicken)

I have nothing but praises for this wonderful dinner at Fika. The dishes came piping hot and were uber delicious. Damn good!

Service 5/10 (They were very hesitant about letting us put the birthday cake in their fridge claiming their restaurant is halal, but so was our cake! They finally relented.)

we were craving for some teppenyaki when someone suggested we should try this place at Novena. so off we go. you can choose between buffet or ala carte. since we’re all not very big eaters, we reckoned ala carte was more worth it. buffet would come up to about $50 per pax.

there were 4 of us. so we try and see if we could order up to $200 worth of food. obviously not. thankfully we went for ala carte! (:

T’s belated bday dinner with the girlfs (: bday girl chose Manhattan at Iluma.

there was a promotion going on for this platter (1-for-1). we thought it was gonna be a huge serving but it was really just nice for 1. haha.

Lobster Platter
Price: $28.80++

Grilled Salmon
Price: $16.90++

Grilled Platter for 1
Price: $18.90++

the portion was just right for us (4 girls)! service was average cos they took quite a long time to get our water/sauces. the crew just nodded in our direction to acknowledge the request, and then forgot all about it. oh and they didn’t allow us to keep the bday cake in their fridge cos this place is halal.

total bill $67.50 + 10% + 7% = $79.45

it’s nearly lunchtime when i entered this restaurant to find it empty o.O nevertheless, i went in cos i saw Student’s Promotion which was those typical less-than-$10 meals.

but it was only after i settled down and look at the menu properly that i realised the limited set meals on offer weren’t very tempting. R & i decided on ala carte instead.

so here’s our order:

starters – Mushroom Soup
$4.90++

sad to say, this is the best dish for the entire meal. you will read later on why. the soup has real mushroom bits which i love! but this is not the best i’ve had.

drink – Farmer Special
$3.00++ (this comes with the soup as a combo. usual price much higher)

wayyyy to sweet!

appetizer – Brus Platter
$8.90++

i was fooled by the pretty pics on the menu! i thought it was quite worth it. considering there are 2 of each flavour but they taste so bad ): from left, tomatoes, smoked salmon, mushroom cheese. the first was tasteless, and the next 2 were super salty! it’s as if they don’t know how to get it right, so just add lotsa salt. ugh.

R says we can DIY this at home anytime and i quite agree.

salad – Wild Sicily
$8.90++

omg, is this how this veg tastes like? there’s a strong bitter after taste that we both dislike. but the pine nuts inside were good though. i hate pine nuts but this is good (: the mango and chicken pieces were too few!!

main dish – Teriyaki Rice
$11.90++

i must say this is kinda new to me. it’s baked rice, Jap style. but tastes so-so only.

total bill with gst is $44.26. considered expensive for lousy food. i’m quite sure i won’t go back. lol.
