The boyf and I decided to settle our dinner at Mad Jack while we were at Bukit Timah area near his alma mater. The ambiance was pretty good, a quiet little dining place. But the food was terrible! ):

Mushroom Soup
Price: S$4.90

Canivore Combo
Price: S$21.90

We ordered this to share but it was such a let-down! Tasteless fish and chicken and the fries were not crispy at all. Salad by the side wasn’t fresh too.

Total bill came up to S$28.70 which was not worth at all! Will not patronize them again.

Met my girlfs for a quick simple dinner at Bedok Point. We heard there’s lots of food places at this mall, hence decided to give it a try. But instead of stepping into a new restaurant, we decided on the good old Sushi Tei. Hahaha probably will give other shops a chance next time!

Sukiyaki

Ten Chasoba
Price: S$12.00

Yosenabe

No pictures for this because I was famished!

Met up with my ex-colleagues for dinner at Prego. There were about 8 of us so we requested for the tables to be joined. Initially they were hesitant but one of the senior staff (or maybe Supervisor/ Manager) immediately brought 2 tables together. And even arranged them nicely so as not to block the walkway. Thumbs up for service!

Within minutes after we were seated, they served bread with olive oil and Prego sauce. Super yums! If I’m not wrong, it’s 2 persons to 1 bread. I like how the bread is still warm and soft on the inside.

Here’s what we ordered. I didn’t get to try everything so I can only give comments on what I ate.

Calamari ($26.00)
Crispy calamari with tartare sauce. I personally felt that it was very average. Could probably find nicer ones elsewhere.

Parma Ham & Melon ($27.00)
Parma ham with rock melon and balsamic figs. I’ve never tried parma ham before so I’m not sure how it should taste like. I only know that it was super salty! Didn’t like it.

Puree Patate ($12.00)
Mashed potato was quite bland. So far I haven’t found my favourite mashed potato yet so this is average.

Tagliolini Neri Gamberoni ($32.00)
Squid ink tagliolini with prawns, in tomato sauce. I love squid ink pasta but I would prefer it without tomato sauce. I think the sauce was too flavourful that it covered the pasta taste. My friend dislikes the seafood-y aftertaste though. You really gotta try it to like (dislike) it! Anyway I prefer the one from Domani.

Lasagne al Forno ($28.00)
Oven-baked pasta layered with beef. This is awesome! Must try!

Agnolotti Salsa Leggera ($28.00)
Stuffed pasta with beef. Omg this was sooooo yummy! I didn’t regret ordering this even though the portion was relatively small. Maybe about 10 pieces of stuffed pasta? But it’s really good. Love the mushroom sauce too. Must try!

Linguini Marinara ($29.00)
Linguini with seafood in tomato sauce. Not bad, I kinda enjoyed this too.

Malloreddus Campidanese ($28.00)
Gnocchetti pasta served with pork sausage sauce. It’s quite below average so you can skip this.

Spaghetti Arrabbiata ($22.00)
I couldn’t find the photo for this one, sorry!

PZ Bona e Buona ($26.00)
Not sure if this is turkey pizza but the meat was tough! The only thing I like is the thin biscuit-like crust but I heard there are better ones out there. So, average pizza!

Merluzzo al Forno ($36.00)
I’m guessing this is fish. Didn’t get to try this, sorry!

Total bill: $294.00 – 15% (HSBC cardholders) + 10% + 7% = $294.13

Met up with my girfs at NYDC for a short catch up, and also, it was K’s birthday!

A slice of birthday cake “Boo Boo”.

This was a rich chocolate cake without the cake like texture (read: sponge cake type?) so I had to say I enjoyed it. I love creamy smooth rich cakes, almost like eating ice-cream!

Knowing K’s love for mushrooms, I ordered stuffed mushroom topped with cheese. Average.

Creamy pasta, I had forgotten how it tasted like. Must not have been very good.

Sisters decided to have steamboat at Sukiya for Christmas gathering this year. Recommended by sis N ‘cos she loves the beef here.

You can choose between Beef, Pork, or Chicken. Since we had 4 pax, we ordered a set of each first. Sliced meat for shabu shabu. Awesome! And I must comment that the beef here is good! (:

As usual, there’s always half a pot of spicy soup, another half non-spicy. After all the meat and veggie, each person was also allowed one serving of soft serve ice-cream. I don’t particularly like it cos the ice-cream melts really quickly and tastes like diluted Milo. Yucks.

Paid about $25.50 per pax.

All the restaurant at Ion Orchard had long queues, so we settled for this (which has the shortest queue).

You can choose between teppenyaki or shabu-shabu. Having already had steamboat the day before, I opted for Chicken Teppenyaki ($10.90).

Perhaps I was famished so the sizzling meat on hotplate was really appealing to me. All teppanyaki comes with miso soup, salad, and rice. I ordered an additional drink. Sorry I can’t remember the total bill cos this was a treat from one of my ex-colleagues.

Family dinner at Soup Restaurant and it was also my first time there. Favourite dishes were chicken with garlic/ ginger dip and ginseng chicken soup.

Sorry I didn’t get to note down the prices. Food pictures:

Ginseng Chicken Soup

Broccoli with Mushroom

Forgot what veggie this was

Fried Fish – this was not bad

Steamed Fish

Specialty Chicken – must try!

Overall food quality was average. Service was not bad cos we asked to take away some food that we couldn’t finish. Even though it was just a small serving, the staff packed it for us nicely.

Best chili cheese fries ever! What’s not to like about the piping hot melted cheese drizzled all over crispy fries, plus they have minced beef too! And we also had a Portobello Mushroom Burger.

Uber satisfying meal for 2 that only costs us $15.

We had a farewell gathering dinner one evening. We were at a loss as to what to order, so we got one of the service staff to recommend some dishes to us. We decided on 7 dishes for 10 pax. It wasn’t a very filling dinner as we had ‘small’ portions for each dish. Taste wise, it was very average. Read on to find out what’s good!

First up, we had soup. If I remembered correctly, it was a fish soup. Average.

Next, some veggie dish. Simple dish.

Steamed chicken. Not bad.

Fried noodles.

Sweet and sour fish.

3 kinds of meat. I think there were char siew (bbq pork), roast chicken, and 3-layered pork. Not bad, but it was barely enough for 10 pax!

Last but not least, tofu! This was my absolute favourite. Tofu was piping hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Comes with gravy, mushroom, and veggie. Love it!

Overall I didn’t think this restaurant left a memorable experience for me. Food, service, ambience were all too average. I guess this is very typical of Chinese restaurants. Oh, and we all had Chinese tea.
