Treated my ex-colleague to dinner just after I got my first pay cheque. Heh. She’s a fan of Japanese food so we opted for Sushi Tei.

There weren’t a lot of people at 7.30PM on a weekday, probably because of the recent Japan disaster that led many to avoid eating Japanese food. I believe there must have been stringent checks in place so I guess it was safe. Just for two ladies, I must say we ordered quite a spread. I’ve classified them broadly into the “must order”, “average”, and “blah”. So you know what to do (;

Towels at 20cents each.

Apricot Juice for her and hot green tea (free) for me.
Price: $3.60++

Hotate Teriyaki – Must Order!
Price: $6.00++
Drenched in awesome teriyaki sauce, the scallops came piping hot!

Salmon Mentaiyaki – Must Order!
Price: $12.00++

Agedashi Tofu – Average!
Price: $5.00++

Umaki – Average!
Price: $6.50++
Everything tastes damn good when served piping hot, same goes for this. But I think the omelette (tamago) was a little too thick and taste was bland, sort of covering the goodness of the eel (unagi).

Salmon Sashimi – Average!
Price: $8.00++
Sashimi was pretty fresh but I’m not a fan so I can’t comment much. R says it was a tad too thick though.

Fried Oyster Sushi – Average!
Price: $4.80++

Green plate
Price: $4.10++

Pink plate
Price: $3.50++

Total bill: $53.90 + 10% + 7% = $63.44

Met up with sisters for dinner at Paradise Inn as recommended by N. This is part of the Paradise Group that includes Paradise Dynasty too! True enough, the food lived up to it’s expectations. But the waiting time was a killer. Don’t ever try to go there on an empty stomach /:

While waiting for N to arrive, we ordered an “appetizer” to temporarily fill our tummies.

Fried Hor Fun with Venison – Small
Price: S$12.00++

I like how the beansprouts were crunchy and the venison (deer meat) was tender. It looked like it would be hard and tough but the meat just melts in your mouth at the first bite! Thumbs up!

Upon sis N’s arrival, we went on to order more dishes. Enjoy!

Hot Plate Tofu – Small (Must Order!)
Price: S$10.00++

Tofu and omelette on a sizzling hot pan, what’s not to love about this dish? There were also bits of cai xin (the canned ones) and minced meat that comes together. Note that dish is a little spicy though.

Sweet and Sour Pork – Small
Price: S$12.00++

You can never really go wrong with gou lok yok; I’ve never tasted lousy ones. They were either average or good!

Chinese Spinach and Egg Trio – Small
Price: S$14.00++

I think it’s a tad overpriced cos it’s just vegetables and eggs but I like how they give a lot of eggs. Super love century egg and salted egg so this is my kinda dish!

Mango Sago
Price: S$3.80++

Looks can be deceiving. The pictures hanging all over the interior were desserts pictures so we thought this place must sell really good desserts. But we were so wrong. The mango sago is pathetically small, and bland. My suggestion is – have your desserts elsewhere.

Other charges include: homemade barley (S$2.00++ each), steamed rice (S$0.60++ each), peanuts (S$1.50++ each), towels (S$0.30++ each).

Total bill: $62.30 + 10% + 7% = $73.35

Met my girlfs for a quick simple dinner at Bedok Point. We heard there’s lots of food places at this mall, hence decided to give it a try. But instead of stepping into a new restaurant, we decided on the good old Sushi Tei. Hahaha probably will give other shops a chance next time!

Sukiyaki
Price: S$15.00

Ten Chasoba
Price: S$12.00

Yosenabe
Price: S$12.00
No pictures for this because I was famished!

Total bill: S$39.80 – 10% (member’s discount) + 10% + 7% = S$42.16
*Towels at $0.20 each

We are at Shou La Shou again! Our favourite Beijing place. I don’t find a single dish which I don’t like at the moment. So it’s a must-try for everything! 😀 Pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Ion Food Hall

Boyf and I wanted a budget dinner so we settled for food hall. Yes, even though the prices are not as “budget” as one would think but at least there’s a wide variety of food at less than $10. We decided to share this mini steamboat after spotting a couple of people eating, but we walked round and round and couldn’t locate it.

Finally found it at the stall selling noodles (iirc)! Quite a generous portion for just $6. Obviously we shared (:

Recommended by friend’s friends, we decided to try out this restaurant located at Raffles Place district.

When you’re first seated, there’s Sambal Belachan ($0.30) and Keropok ($1.00) already placed on the table. So if you don’t want them, just get the crew to take it back so you won’t be charged (:

Ayam Gulai/ Traditional Indonesian Curry Chicken ($5.80)
Actually we didn’t order this dish ‘cos we decided on another chicken dish instead. But A was craving for curry so while we were discussing, the friendly crew interrupted “we can give you the curry”. Yippee! Commendable service. So this is curry and rice.

Rice wrapped in banana leaves ($1.50) is free flow but only if everybody orders one each. If not can you imagine the 5 of us just order 1 rice and free flow all the way! -.-

Ayam Bali/ Sweet and Spicy Charcoal Grilled Chicken ($6.80)
I like it that it’s not too spicy. I seriously cannot take spicy food.

Tahu Pecal/ Traditional Indonesian Toufu with Peanut Gravy ($6.80)
Love peanut gravy alot! Not very spicy when you eat them with the crackers.

Sotong Pedas/ Stir Fried Sambal Sotong ($11.50)
Ok this is getting too spicy for my taste buds. I think I drank more water than eat sotong.

Tumis Kachang Panjang Belachan/ Stir Fried Long Beans with Belachan ($6.80)
Really spicy too!

Sorry I can’t give better comments, other than the dishes were spicy. It was so hot that it covered the taste of the food. But I still enjoyed the meal ‘cos the sauces were so flavourful.

Sisters decided to have steamboat at Sukiya for Christmas gathering this year. Recommended by sis N ‘cos she loves the beef here.

You can choose between Beef, Pork, or Chicken. Since we had 4 pax, we ordered a set of each first. Sliced meat for shabu shabu. Awesome! And I must comment that the beef here is good! (:

As usual, there’s always half a pot of spicy soup, another half non-spicy. After all the meat and veggie, each person was also allowed one serving of soft serve ice-cream. I don’t particularly like it cos the ice-cream melts really quickly and tastes like diluted Milo. Yucks.

Paid about $25.50 per pax.

We had a farewell gathering dinner one evening. We were at a loss as to what to order, so we got one of the service staff to recommend some dishes to us. We decided on 7 dishes for 10 pax. It wasn’t a very filling dinner as we had ‘small’ portions for each dish. Taste wise, it was very average. Read on to find out what’s good!

First up, we had soup. If I remembered correctly, it was a fish soup. Average.

Next, some veggie dish. Simple dish.

Steamed chicken. Not bad.

Fried noodles.

Sweet and sour fish.

3 kinds of meat. I think there were char siew (bbq pork), roast chicken, and 3-layered pork. Not bad, but it was barely enough for 10 pax!

Last but not least, tofu! This was my absolute favourite. Tofu was piping hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Comes with gravy, mushroom, and veggie. Love it!

Overall I didn’t think this restaurant left a memorable experience for me. Food, service, ambience were all too average. I guess this is very typical of Chinese restaurants. Oh, and we all had Chinese tea.

Met the girls for dinner and we decided to try this Nonya Cafe, since it was cheap (for buffet). The variety was very limited but the quality of the food was surprisingly good. We had a hard time deciding which dish didn’t pass our ‘taste test’.

The Mee Siam was nice 😀 A & P had 2 bowls each. The Lontong had too much coconut milk in it. Eeeks. The meats were good! Samosa, yam cake, and all the other finger food were ok. Tasted pretty decent. The kuehs are their specialty I guess.

Despite all the good reviews, the girls & I think we wouldn’t go back there again. Once is enough (:
